Volute

Volute is a fabric floor lamp. Rakumba collaborates with European designer Sebastian Herkner to reimagine the fabric shade with the Volute lamp. Created in the form of large floor, pendant, table and wall lamps, Volute encapsulates Sebastian Herkner's signature soft geometric shapes and Rakumba's passion for fabric luminaires. For Volute, Sebastian created an interplay of volumes, re-imagining the traditional fabric shade in a sophisticated, multi-dimensional form. The imposing floor lamps appear as luminous totems, with curved, geometric surfaces. Where most fabric lampshades are designed as cylinders or cones based on simple 2D patterns, Sebastian Herkner has conceived Volute as two softened conical shapes that merge into a surface of compound curvature. Two shells dialogue to create a space for light: they overlap each other to provide different perspectives and attitudes. The fabric plays with shape, tension and precision.
