Argyle

Argyle is a blown glass floor lamp. Rakumba announces a new collaboration with designer Luca Nichetto and together they present Argyle, an extraordinary lighting concept whose intricate structure of nested diamonds exudes a complex and compelling beauty. Argyle is rich in narrative references and masterfully blends Rakumba's technical expertise and passion for contemporary lighting design with Nichetto Studio's distinctive DNA. Nichetto draws on the ancient Venetian practice of Murano glassblowing, present in his personal and design history, and combines it with incredible success with Rakumba's heritage and ability to develop highly technical lighting. Australia is famous for the rare coloured diamonds found in the remote Argyle mines. Taking a cue from this, and at the same time referring to the overlapping patterns, Rakumba's new light series builds a diamond structure nested by layers of hand-blown glass. In the centre is a perfectly lit diamond light source, encased in a second glass diamond, then the graceful curve of an hourglass and a final layer of glass that delicately creates a softened outer diamond. The outer diamond is removable to create a customisable outer silhouette, particularly fascinating when the lights are used in multiples. As a pendant lamp, Argyle appears as a precious jewel, impeccable in its minimalism and symmetry. Stacked and nested in larger multiples, Argyle's narrative evolves like an illuminated, shimmering curtain, evoking the classic 'Argyle' textile weave in a linguistic serendipity. Argyle is the perfect backdrop for a contract or commercial lobby, a beautiful room divider or the centrepiece of a grand entrance. Also presented as a floor or table lamp, Argyle becomes a luminous totem that can be designed up to eight diamonds high. Argyle's delicately complex structure is enhanced by optional cool, warm, neutral and colourless shades.
