Cassina celebrates this important anniversary and pays homage to Vico Magistretti's addition to the Cassina iMaestri Collection with Maralunga 50, an exclusive edition of one of the Milanese architect's most recognised models that also turns 50 this year. Available for a limited time only, this new version of the armchair and the two or three-seater sofa has been dressed in nubuck leather in the Maralunga 50 colour, a particular shade of red, a tone that was very dear to the maestro. A true hallmark of Magistretti, red has been a constant throughout his life and career, from the socks he often wore to it becoming a symbol of his nonconformism in the design world. Framed by a special stitching that outlines its contours, the generous volumes of the Maralunga 50 are upholstered in nubuck, a soft and elegant leather that, on the one hand, accentuates the comfort of the model and, on the other, enhances its timeless beauty. Designed in 1973 and an acclaimed winner of a Compasso d’Oro award in 1979, the Maralunga model immediately made its mark as an icon with great strength and impact on the international market. The concealed innovation in the movement of its headrest from high to low, thanks to the mechanism developed from a simple bicycle chain, its reassuring appearance and the extreme simplicity of its soft padding, fully summarise its most salient features.
