The concept behind the Fluxus-E table lamp was originally conceived by the Italian designer Paolo Ulian for an exhibition on the inventions of Baron Bic curated by Ugo La Pietra. A reference that is immediately evident in the lamp’s articulated arms that at the time were made from the transparent plastic tubes of the quintessential pen. In 2001, Ulian further developed this design for commercial use, preserving its sculptural form with transparent borosilicate glass tubes that could be rotated to create different shapes.
Today Fluxus-E has been completely optimised by Cassina with a single LED module that illuminates both the table lamp’s central body and its peripheral area, while miniature spot LED lights positioned under each single tube project light up through the glass to diffuse a warm glow.
Directed outwards like a lotus, inwards like a flower waiting to blossom, alternated to create abstract shapes or randomly rotated like a sea anemone, each single tube that diffuses light can be easily rotated through a simple gesture making this lamp unique.
Made up of just two materials, glass tubes and an aluminium base, the piece can be easily assembled and disassembled, both for delivery and cleaning purposes, and separated at the end of its life cycle to facilitate recycling.
