The Hug chair is designed by TA Design Studio, cofounded by designers Chung-yen Chang and Tian Jin in Milan.
The name stands for Humane, Universal and Genuine – but also, simply the feeling of receiving a warm hug.
Investigating the potential of wood as a chair-making material led the pair to a new creation that fuses the aesthetics of two classic archetypes: the Chinese Ming-style circle chair, and the Thonet Vienna N.811 armchair.
At first, the Hug chair’s familiar shape might be taken for granted, yet its proportion, materiality and construction reveal a truly refined sophistication. The designers delight in this two-step experience of the chair, comparing it to “the sweet aftertaste of a cup of green tea”.
Hug chair has an upholstered seat with solid ash wood construction and available in various finishes and colours.
