Information

Square Table - The Square Table was originally designed as a cafeteria dining table in the late 1950s. It's convenient size made it attractive for multi-purpose use subsequently. As with the originals, our re-edition is made entirely with solid teak. The table top, made with suitably cut and grain matched teak planks, has a bevelled edge. The legs are detachable for convenient flat packing. The Square table is ideal for use in city apartments as a breakfast table, dining table or even a work table. Finishes: We offer this product in a choice of Natural Teak, Dark Stain or Black Finish. For Natural Teak finish, the wood is sanded to smoothness and transparent wood polish and sealer are applied with a soft cloth to bring out the natural golden brown colour of teak. For Dark Stain, a coat of teak stain is hand applied to give the wood a darker, deeper shade. For Black Finish, the wood is sprayed with an eco friendly water based paint that leaves the grains and patterns visible. Project Chandigarh is our homage to Indian Modernism, a style and philosophy of making that manifested in Chandigarh in the 1950s. Our re-editions's of these mid-century designs use the same craftsmanship and philosophy of making that was used for three decades in Chandigarh. The nuances and details that make these designs special – finger joints, curvatures, grooves – are retained while improving the pieces structurally and materially. The natural rattan cane used for the seats and backs are peeled and woven by hand, by highly skilled weavers just like in the vintage pieces.
