Information
Petrified wood is the name given to fossilized remains of terrestrial vegetation. It is the result of a tree having completely transitioned to stone by the process of permineralization. All the organic materials have been replaced with minerals mostly silicates such as quartz, allowing them to be preserved along the different geological eras while retaining the original structure of the stem tissue as well as the concentric rings and traces of the worms, once living in the trunk.
