Information

Designed to recreate the classic FBD furniture collection, the J-Series offers a functional design born out of industrial development. FDB created a strong furniture concept in 1933, and under Børge Mogensen’s leadership as design director from 1942, the FDB furniture linked industrial production closely with architectural furniture design. The primary focus was not on detailing, but on making well-designed furniture accessible to the general population. The industrial approach eliminated the need for special components and all chairs featured identical legs. FDB revolutionised the industry as a precursor of many of the design icons that Denmark is acknowledged for today around the world. HAY’s reproduction of Børge Mogensen’s classic J42 chair clearly ref lects his design philosophy. Precise proportions with simple horizontal and vertical lines are used to construct a curved spindled backrest and angular armrests. With a broad plywood seat and frame in solid oak or beech, the design has a timeless quality that is built to provide lasting comfort. Available in oiled, matt lacquered or painted finishes. Seat: Beech veneer core with top and bottom layers in oak veneer. Painted versions feature top and bottom layers in beech veneer. Base: Solid oak. Painted versions in solid beech. Backrest: Oak veneer. Painted versions in beech veneer. Available in 4 different finishes: - Black painted beech (RAL 9005) - White painted beech (RAL 9010) - Matt lacquered oak - Oiled oak Cushions in different standard fabrics and leathers.
