Why is space management important for business?
Only 21% of employees are really involved in the work process. This indicator is influenced by 3 factors: physical, emotional and intellectual. If the latter is the most difficult to influence, then the first two are completely subject to the employer. It is possible to increase the productivity of employees. And first of all, this should be done through the creation of an effective workspace.
And now for more details. The American Institute of Public Opinion GALLUP annually collects statistics from workplaces and studies trends around the world. So, for 2021 the level of employee engagement has increased to 21%, but still remained at a fairly low level. Considering that 19% of the total staff sabotage the workflow, it becomes clear that one of the most important tasks of the employer is still the search and implementation of methods to improve labor efficiency.
How to increase engagement? Three factors - physical, emotional, and intellectual state - influence engagement and motivate a person to do the job as best as possible and achieve meaningful results. As in Maslow's pyramid, the basic physical level is the most important and further descending.
Physical layer
This is the provision of basic human needs. They begin with the notorious organizational, technical, ergonomic, sanitary, hygienic and economic requirements, which are even regulated by legislation. And they end up with a decent salary, additional bonuses in the form of VMI, food compensation, etc.
Emotional level
This is providing an employee with the opportunity for formal and informal communication with colleagues. This is how social connections are formed, which, according to neurologists, have a huge impact on our well-being. In addition, teams are more promising from the point of view of the company's development than isolated single employees. It is in group discussion that viable solutions and brilliant ideas are born.
Intellectual level
Providing staff with the opportunity to switch and relax. The fact is that during the working day, employees are faced with a large amount of information. Depending on the position, the level varies, but the trend is that it only grows over the years. In this regard, rapid fatigue appears, the activity of the body decreases during the day.
It is difficult to influence the restriction of information sources (social networks, messengers, third-party sites) visited by staff. But there is an opportunity to help those employees whose work is directly related to data processing. Namely, to give them the opportunity to switch attention, change the position of the body, take a break.
So, there are 3 levels that affect employee engagement, each of which more or less concerns the organization of office space. And this means that how carefully the employer approached the task of creating an effective modern office will depend on the productivity of the staff and, as a result, the profitability of his company.
A well-designed office, which took into account such factors as health, well-being, social needs of people, can increase productivity by up to 36%.
Your office is very important. You have no idea how much it affects how your employees and the organization work, adapt and succeed. Our goal is to make an office where you don't need to go, but where you want to come. Our task is to find a balance between the needs of your employees and your goals.
When an office is organized in such a way that it can easily change and adapt, and your employees can move freely inside it, then the return on investment increases. Connections are being built between employees, grandiose ideas are being generated, organization is growing, and positive changes are taking place organically.
